H351 is a compact multi-generational family home for a client who is interested passive building design strategies that can help optimize comfort while enhancing a sense of privacy.

Reversing the relationship between front and back of house, its “L-shaped” plan orients the building primary openings due north and east to the protected central garden, around which all served spaces are organized. A seemingly monolithic local brick facade is then wrapped around the public-facing sides, obscuring direct visibility and reducing heat gain while maintaining ventilation. A series of smaller courts are punctured through the floor plan to further optimize daylight.

In contrast to the simple form, a play with window protrusion and indentation on the second level casts shadows that change throughout the day, adding subtle layer of dynamism while framing specific views.
